The Cast of  “H ave A Holly Jolly Murder”

   Ryan Girard

It’s Ryan’s favorite time of year!  The sights, the sounds, the smells!  Of course he’s talking about the one time he allows himself to see his family.  Man, the smells.  He also enjoys getting to spread a little holiday cheer here at Agatha’s!  In fact, this year he’s ready to spread so much cheer that you are DEFINITELY gonna get some on you!  Come on out and see if you get covered in cheer, but if you do, he ain’t paying for the dry cleaning.

  Katie Kneeland

Katie most favorite time of the year is the holidays.  And she doesn’t care about which holiday you’re talking about.  If you’re ready to celebrate Arbor Day, then she’ll party with you.  But if you’re talking about the holidays, like most people talk about the holidays, then she’s ready for that too.  But if you’re not talking about the holidays that most people are talking about, and …..wait….now she’s confused….which holidays are you talking about?  Are they different then the ones I’m talking about? Jut let me know, then we’ll celebrate.

 Daniel Triandiflou

Dan has one word for the holidays.  It’s not a big word, it’s not a small word, it’s more a medium sized one.  It encompasses everything he feels about the season.  You know that feeling you get when you hear all the songs, and see all the decorations, and then head to the mall and go thru the traffic, and all the people at the mall? Yeah, that’s how he feels.  And then you get to drive home, after spending hours at the mall, and you never really got that one gift that you were looking for, and the parking lot was crazy, and WHAT IS THAT GUY DOING IN MY LANE?!?!?  Actually, now that he thinks about it all, he’d like to change his one word.  It’s pretty short now. Come find out Dan’s word at Agatha’s this holiday season!

Amber Chaney

Amber is so thrilled to be back at Agatha’s for the holiday show, “Have a Holly Jolly Murder!” She’s been looking forward to getting dressed up for people again.  And this time, she gets paid for it.  It’s like the bestest holiday gift ever!  It’s not like she can’t go get dressed up for no reason, but it just seems so much more festive when she gets paid for it, and not just sit outside a mall dressed in some weird elf costume, with everyone looking at her but no one daring to talk to her.  Maybe it’s because she screams at people when she gets angry, but if they’d just stop and say Hi! then she wouldn’t get SO ANGRY!  Happy Holidays!

   Marc Farley

Marc has had an amazing year, and it’s only November!  Wait, that means that the year is almost over.  Well, crap.  Anyway, he wrote “Have a Holly Jolly Murder!” for everyone to enjoy at Agatha’s and he hopes you come on out and have a good holiday time!  Then, coming in January, on the Discovery Science Channel, you can see him as a series regular cast member on the new TV show, “Stuff You Should Know.”  It’s based on the podcast of the same name.  But if you don’t know the podcast, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t watch the TV show, because you should.  And if you don’t know what a podcast is, well……he can’t help you.

A Great Offer from the City of Roswell for Georgia Ensemble Theatre Patrons
The City of Roswell is extending to Georgia Ensemble Theatre (GET) patrons a discount offer to one of their great “Roswell Presents” programs:
“It’s a Wonderful Life: Live from WVL Radio Theatre.”
GET Patrons will get a $5 discount off TWO tickets when purchasing online at www.roswellpresents.com and entering the promo code “GET”.
About the Production:
“It’s A Wonderful Life: Live From WVL Radio Theatre”
at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center
Friday & Saturday, December 21 & 22, 2012 at 8pm
Tickets: $25 (adults) / $15 (kids 14 and under)

It’s Christmas Eve in 1945, and only a handful of WVL Radio’s actors have braved the blizzard to perform that evening’s broadcast of It’s a Wonderful Life and keep the station afloat. This clever stage adaptation breathes new life into the poignant story of George Bailey and Bedford Falls. When Frank Capra and his co-writers were working on the original screenplay of It’s a Wonderful Life, the Great Depression was a vivid memory. The story of George Bailey and Bedford Falls is juxtaposed against a time of failing banks, devastatingly high unemployment and a shortage of affordable housing. The circumstances are eerily familiar, and over 60 years later, this story remains as fresh and relevant as ever. Its message of hope and optimism is the perfect antidote to holiday cynicism.

This 1940s “live broadcast” of Frank Capra’s beloved film takes us back to the Golden Age of Radio. This fresh new adaptation of the film is set in the fictional studio of WVL Radio Theatre on a cold, snowy winter night. Due to the blizzard, the professional voice actors are unable to get through, but the show must go on – so a small but intrepid band of employees manage to create the dozens of movie characters and scenes using just their voices and a sound effects table. This exquisitely detailed production is an uplifting story of struggle and triumph, and of the power of a community to weather financial storms.

This production is brought to you through “Roswell Presents” by the City of Roswell, GA.

Q&A With Marci Phillips

Q&A w/ Marci Phillips (Executive Director, ABC Casting)
(Part 1)
Q:   Are there certain actors who you bring in regularly for auditions?  What do those actors do that makes them appealing to you?  Is it simply about talent, or other factors as well? -Michael S. (NYC)

A:  The actors that I bring in time and time again are the ones who give me a consistently polished performance in the audition. Their lines are memorized (but the page is always in hand just in case!), their choices are strong and well thought out, and they understand the importance of being either fun or compelling (or both!) for a Series Regular role. These actors always give me something different than the 20 actors who came in before them and the 20 actors who will come in after them. They are every bit as prepared in the audition as they would be if they already had the job and this were Day 1 of shooting.

-The difference between L.A. and Atlanta auditions.

HABER FILM/TV AUDITION INTENSIVE

Taught by Bob Harter

As professional actors, we often audition and work on projects that don’t necessarily challenge the full spectrum of our talents. You may be comfortable with industrials, commercials, and voice-over but fall apart when you audition for a film. With the increase of film and television coming to Georgia, now more than ever, Atlanta talent needs to be ready for Hollywood auditions.

This Intensive course is designed for trained actors who have some audition experience and is taught by Bob Harter, who has trained with Margie Haber and her elite group of instructors at the Margie Haber Studio in Los Angeles.

Using the “Haber Audition Technique”, actors work with film and television scripts, learning how to nail the audition in a limited amount of time. The focus is on the nuts and bolts of breaking down a scene, including relationship, intention, history, opening and closing beats, core and masking. Using the skills you learn will greatly improve your audition skills. This valuable cold-reading technique works.

Margie herself will be coming to yourACT to teach her Advanced Intensive following this workshop.  Preference is given to actors who have completed this Intensive.

SCHEDULE

6:30-10:30 (approx) Tuesdays & Thursdays

January 22 thru February 14

Limited to 12

Pay in full $350 or pay half $175

Voice-Over “Copy Grasp” Workshop

with VO Agent Sally Neal

Sally Neal, voiceover agent of Houghton Talent has this to say:

“A voice is just a voice until you add personality and a true understanding of what you are saying and why…  It’s the reason producers will choose one voice over another.”

Break down the copy you are given. Look at it from the producer’s and writer’s point of view. Figure out who the target audience is. Determine why your style/voice has been asked to audition the copy. Then, deliver the script in the most effective way to promote interest in the product. If you do it, you will book the jobs!

NOTE: Not for children or teens. Limited to 15. If necessary, time will be extended to 3:30pm.

Come and learn this important information!

Ismprov is an Improv format with George Faughnan (left), Troy Halverson, Ben Owen, Perry Rebekah Frost, Bernie Clark, Randy Havens, Barbara Tushbant, Kevin Gillese, Cris Gray and Rueben Medina to name a few.

Our goal is to disprove the old adage that improvisation should never be original, political, or address social grievances.  We accomplish this without alienating audiences by focusing on the embodiment and relationships of ideas to each other, and how they form the future.

We filter these embodied ideas through a term ending in “ism” because those words signify most of the artistic movements, governmental systems, or schools of thought that have been perpetrated throughout history and continue to form the future of humanity.  So far, we have explored: Sexism, Ageism, Schism, Optimism, Objectivism, and Communism.
