A Busy December – And great discounts for the New Year!

yourACT has a lot going on for our Kids & Teens this month.  This Saturday, December 1st,  there will be a Business of Acting Seminar in the lobby for parents.  Saturday, December 15th visiting agents will join us in the theatre to watch our students perform and to give feedback and answer questions.  The Winter/Spring Session begins January 5th, and if you register by December 31st, you can save $20 off classes!

Business of Acting!

We will have a “Business of Acting Seminar” for parents this Saturday, December 1 during class time covering headshots, resume’s, agents, auditions, and more, and you’ll be given materials to take home with you.  Bob Harter will be in the lobby presenting the material and answering your questions about how to best support your child or teen in their pursuit of an acting career, if that is their goal.  Even if they’re not sure at this point in their training, this is valuable info just in case they decide later to seek representation and begin auditioning.

Agent Visit!

Our 4-month Fall/Winter session will culminate Saturday, December 15, when the parents will join a visiting agent in the Theatre to view the actors performing improv and scenes live onstage, as well as taped scenes or monologues on the widescreen!

Giving the kids feedback from 10am-noon will be agent Brenda Pauley from Hot Shot Kids, and the teens will be critiqued by agent Sarah Carpenter of Atlanta Models & Talent from 1-3pm.  We are very proud of these young actors and know you’ll want to support them by staying to watch.  Don’t miss it!

Because this is a live performance, we ask that you leave small children at home if possible.

Discount on Classes!

The Winter/Spring session starts January 5 and goes to April 27.  You can register at any time to reserve your space, but if you register before December 31st, you get $20 off!  You have the option of paying for all 4 months in advance to save an additional $60, or pay month-to-month.  New students need to call us to schedule the one-hour private session, Intro to On-Camera Acting.

   The Art of “Non-Speaking” Auditions
Saturday, Dec. 15th Master Class

9:30am – 1:30pmAs we near the end of this year, we were surprised to realize that almost half of all Principal roles booked were auditioned as “Non-Speaking” roles. And just because a role is labeled as “Non-Speaking,” it does not mean it is “Non-Acting,” and it surely doesn’t always mean you don’t speak.Yes, sometimes the “Non-Speaking” auditions are some of the most difficult, nuanced and complicated auditions that an actor can have.

This Saturday Master Class will work on actual “Non-Speaking” auditions held at C&J Casting over this past year. We will discuss tips and techniques on how to master the Art of “Non-Speaking” auditions.

Give yourself the early Holiday gift of making sure that for next year, YOU will be one of the ones that book all those “Non-Speaking” commercials!

Saturday, December 15th

9:30am – 1:30pm

(arrive between 9 – 9:30am, we will start the morning with

bagels and sweets and then get right to work at 9:30am)

$150 (includes breakfast)

Once you register, if you have any specific ‘non-speaking’ auditions you auditioned for at C&J and would like to work on please let us know (time permitting).

Dear Mystie,

It’s happening again. For the sixth year in a row, Fulton County is planning to cut the arts and culture budget. That means Georgia Ensemble Theatre and Conservatory, as well as all of the other arts and culture organizations you love in Fulton County, will again be receiving less grant money than in years past.

Fulton County has been a tremendous supporter of Georgia Ensemble Theatre and Conservatory for 20 years. Just this year, we have received $33,400 from the County. This is money that is irreplaceable in this current economic climate. We want to continue to bring you the artistic excellence that you are accustomed to, so we need your help!

We understand that these are challenging economic times, but the arts have already sacrificed more than their fair share in budget cuts. The Commissioners are meeting on November 15 to discuss the proposed budget, and we need your help to make sure they understand the importance of the Fulton County Arts & Culture to you and that you support funding in this budget cycle.

*  From 2007 to 2012 Fulton County has cut grants to arts and culture organizations by 46%.

*  While all departments in Fulton County are being asked to take a 5% cut this year, the arts are being asked to take a 20% cut.

*  The total revenues generated by arts organizations in Fulton County in 2011 were over $365 million.

*  Arts and culture organizations in metro Atlanta employ more than 24,000 people.

*  Write to your commissioners and tell them why you believe they should support arts and culture in Fulton County.  Following are email addresses for the Commissioners.

–  John H. Eaves, Commission Chairman (District 1, At-Large)

–  Emma I. Darnell, Vice Chair r (District 5)

–  Robert L. “Robb” Pitts, Commissioner (District 2, At-Large)

–  Liz Hausmann, Commissioner (District 3)

–  Tom Lowe, Commissioner (District 4)

–  Joan P. Garner, Commissioner (District 6)

–  William “Bill” Edwards, (District 7)

*  Attend the public budget hearing on January 2nd, and volunteer to speak on behalf of the arts.

–          Their physical address is:  141 Pryor Street Southwest Atlanta, GA 30303

Thank you for your help. We know you value the arts, so we need your help to advocate for Fulton County funding for the arts. With your help we can continue to enrich our community, provide jobs, and contribute to the economic vitality of our city.

With sincere appreciation,

Georgia Ensemble Theatre and Conservatory
