About The Show:

Return to the days-gone-by of the American Wild West in this fresh new play by film and Broadway star Jeff Daniels. Thrown together by unfortunate circumstances, an ornery vagrant outlaw and a singing cowboy argue the virtues of mayhem, music, true love, and the meaning of life as they try to live by the cowboy code. This prairie showdown features original songs, as well as scoundrels, six-guns and a horse named Buttermilk.

Combo Writers/Actors Show!

This is Edgar Allen Poe.  He was not a funny writer in the slightest.  And as you can see, he took terrible headshots.

But you don’t have to be like Edgar, quoth the Sketchworks nevermore.  We have a class where you will not only write sketch comedy, you’ll get up onstage and perform it.

Sessions start Oct 3, but it’s limited to 10 people.  Sign up now at the Sketchworks site

It’s taught by Jen Kelley, who ironically is quite fond of ravens.

Are you a true Sketchworks fan?  Toaster, please!  If you haven’t “Liked” the Sketchworks Facebook Fan Page, you’re seething hatred of us is all too evident.

What better way to show your friends how stupid Sketchworks is than to show them our videos?

Sketchworks YouTube Channel

Just Two Shows?  What is This, Some Kind of Comedy Drive-by?

Sketchworks Comedy Theater Atlanta

The answer is yes.  Aren’t you familiar with the Sketchworks slogan, “We Crank it Out”?  That means we’ve got to slap you upside the head with the comedy so we can move on to other things.

Brian Bremer’s Master Class Showcase is Aug 26 and 27 ONLY at the Sketchworks Theatre.  Come see our up and coming new actors take the stage by storm.  It will be significantly funnier than staying home and watching hurricane Irene on the Weather Channel.

Tickets, info and direction are waiting for you at the Sketchworks site.  Bring friends or Muammar Gadhafi if you can find him.

Sketchworks Backstage comedy podcast Atlanta

Did you know that Sketchworks has its own podcast and radio show?

Well of course you didn’t, you’re not our mother.  But it’s true.  Every single week, Sketchworks’ Cris Gray, Brian Troxell and Casey Holloway hang out backstage and riff on pop culture and current events.  Listen once and you’ll be hooked.

Sketchworks Backstage is also heard on the air on the mighty WROD-AM, Daytona Beach.  That’s right, Sketchworks is spreading outside of the ATL like a virus.  Go to the Sketchworks Backstage site to listen.

Save the Whales…I Mean Date!

The next all-new Sketchworks main stage show “Going Ape Skit” premieres Sept 23 and runs Fridays and Saturdays through Oct 22.  If you miss it, you will despise yourself.

“Bachelorette” Shows Mean Girls All Grown Up

Pinch ‘N’ Ouch Theatre closes their 2011 Atlanta Season with Leslye Headland’s raucous new comedy “Bachelorette”, which opens Friday September 2nd at 7 Stages Backstage in Little Five Points of Atlanta, GA.

Set during a toxic party on the eve of a swanky Manhattan wedding, bottles of bubbly are consumed with breathtaking dispatch by pretty young things in party dresses in this tale of mean-girl malice and generational malaise.

Ms. Headland, who now lives in Los Angeles, sees her work as closer in mood to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “Beautiful and the Damned.” “That guy really did not pull any punches in terms of portraying debauchery,” she said to a New York Times journalist.

The plays of Ms. Headland and contemporaries like Annie Baker (“Body Awareness” NOW PLAYING) offer an up-to-the-nanosecond portrayal of a generation yet to hit 30 and leery of growing up. When theatergoers tell Ms. Headland that her attitude toward her generation reminds them of Neil LaBute (“Reasons To Be Pretty”), she said, “I take it as a compliment,” adding, “He thinks awful people deserve good stories too.”

Bachelorette” is the second in Ms. Headland’s series of plays based on the seven deadly sins. “Bachelorette” is about gluttony, which in Headland’s contemporary take is expressed through self-destructive addictions to alcohol, drugs, shopping, bad boyfriends and binge bulimia.

PnO’s production of “Bachelorette” will be directed by Producing Artistic Director Grant McGowen. McGowen most recently directed PnO’s “The Issues Project” and “Lobby Hero” and performed in “Tape”.

The cast of six will include Sarah Blackman (“The Vampire Diaries”), Ann Marie Gideon (GA Shakespeare’s “Noises Off”), Bryan Brendle (Horizon Theatre’s “Superior Donuts”), Barrett Doyle (PnO’s “Body Awareness”), Jessica De Maria, and Elizabeth Lanier.

make up workshop

Tracy Ewell, professional makeup artist and a member of IATSE Local 798 owned a makeup boutique for 12 years before working exclusively in Television and Film. In 2009 Allure Magazine voted best makeup artist in Atlanta.  known for my makeup lessons that teach each individuals the right way to look their best for their specific life.

She says:

Recently I was working on a feature film in Atlanta where I watched a “glorified background” talent get upgraded to a speaking role next to several famous actors. Often times background talent are told to come “camera ready” and this can be the best way to get noticed. In this profession every measure an artist takes can “make or break” opportunities. The way we behave, how prepared we are, knowing what it means to be a true professional, will all hopefully help us have the chance to show our true talents.

I am hosting a makeup event for all talent. This event is happening August 26th and 27th at Woo Skincare & Cosmetics (located in Peachtree Battle Shopping Center). The service is an hour appointment where I teach individuals exactly what they need to know to look their best in most situations. I show them different looks, tricks, how to effectively enhance their face, which products will work best for them and how to show up for a audition or job CAMERA READY!

The Chez Group is excited to announce an acting workshop with Steve Coulter for actors ages 15 and up

The Chez Group is excited to announce an acting workshop with Steve Coulter for actors ages 15 and up, scheduled for the weekend of August 27th and 28th! There will be a morning session both days from 10 AM to 2 PM, and an afternoon session both days from 2:30 to 6:30 PM. Participants will choose either the morning sessions or the afternoon sessions and will attend both days. This two-day workshop with Steve will be a scene study class. Steve will focus on how to prepare quickly and effectively for on-camera auditions…both for film and television. As Steve explains, the process is very simple when the actor knows the proper steps to take. Often scripts are received by the actor with very little preparation time before the audition. Steve will walk the actor through the simple steps to take for a successful audition in order to get that callback! Steve will spend the first day helping the actor to analyze the script that each is given. Everyone will then take their scripts home with them and return the second day to be put on camera in a simulated audition. They will be critiqued following the playback. The location of Steve’s workshop is the Residence Inn by Marriott Atlanta/Buckhead at 2960 Piedmont Road, Atlanta, 30305. The phone number is 404-239-0677 if anyone should need to book a room. Please be sure to ask for the special Chez Group rate of $99 per night. The cost of the workshop is $165 for the WEEKEND*, and space is limited. To register, please follow this link to the training page of the website where further workshop details and thePayPal button may be found: http://www.chezgroup.com/training.html

Indie Producing Series

Class #1
Sunday, August 14th, 12-5p
How to Breakdown Your Script

You have a script.  It’s ready to go to.  But how do you know how much your film will cost or how long it will take to shoot?  You start by breaking the screenplay down scene by scene, with each element in your screenplay accounted for – from actors to extras, props to set dressing, vehicles to special equipment, wardrobe to make-up, sound to stunts, lighting fx to special fx – as well as breaking your scene pages into 1/8ths.  Whether you have movie magic, gorilla, and just paper and pen, this class will teach you everything you need to know to get that screenplay in shape for scheduling and budgeting, then shooting, and you’ll even learn a little about proper screenplay format.

Class #2
Saturday, August 20th, 3-6p
How to Schedule Your Film

You have your screenplay broken down, but now what?  How do you know how long it will take to shoot?  How do you schedule your movie without a shot list or locations or actors?  This class will show you the numerous considerations that go into scheduling, and what is most important now, in the development stage, when you need to put together the budget for your potential investors or even for a social media fundraising campaign.

Class #3
Saturday, August 27th, 1-6p

How to Budget Your Movie

It’s broken down and scheduled, but how can you possibly know what it will cost to make?  How do you know what things cost without pricing each thing needed?  How much the actors and crew will cost?  What if I can’t pay anyone, but need to raise money for equipment, art direction, and food?  How do I measure that without a DP, Art Director, or Foodie?  This class will cover all the basics – what items you must pay for, ranges of crew and cast salaries, equipment costs, and how to leverage nothing into something…thinking outside the box to help cover those extra costs.

$400 for ATL Film 365 / GPP members, $475 for non-members
Limited to 25 students, minimum of 10.
Students MUST have a screenplay – short or feature – to workshop.
Students must take all three classes as a series.

Workshop with Shay Griffin

Shay wanted me to reach out to each of you to let you know that we have several places remaining in her upcoming workshop with Mari Lyn Henry August 6th and 7th.  The overall goal of the weekend is to get each participant confident that he/she is best promoting themselves on camera…and to answer all questions they may have as they relate to the casting process, whether individual or general in nature.

After Shay’s recent seminar with Alpha Tyler, in which participants were encouraged to ask any questions they may have regarding the casting process, we realized there was not enough time in the day to get to all of the answers.

With the weekend’s format that we have structured for Mari Lyn Henry’s visit to Atlanta August 6th and 7th, participants of the weekend workshop will have the opportunity to visit with Shay when she is not observing and participating with Mari Lyn. They are encouraged to ask any questions regarding the casting process that they may have.

Because Shay will be holding this open forum discussion simultaneously with Mari Lyn Henry’s HOW TO BE A WORKING ACTOR workshop, we are changing the workshop location so that the two rooms will be situated next door to one another.  This move will facilitate everyone’s being able to rotate more conveniently in small groups between the two sessions throughout the course of the weekend.

As a reminder, the workshop details, including the new address, are as follows.

The Chez Group is excited to announce a two-day workshop weekend with Shay Griffin and Mari Lyn Henry, who will be coming to Atlanta to join Shay, the weekend of August 6th and 7th.

Mari Lyn will conduct her highly acclaimed workshop, Getting Your Act Together!, based on her best selling book, HOW TO BE A WORKING ACTOR, now in its fifth edition and more commonly referred to by actors and industry professionals as “The Bible of the Biz.”

To read more of Mari Lyn’s career highlights, please follow this link, http://www.chezgroup.com/mlhenry.html .

The weekend’s agenda will include image enhancement, scene study, and audition technique…both on and off camera. Each participant will receive individual analysis from Mari Lyn regarding all aspects of presentation.  A detailed schedule of events can be found on the training page of our website at http://www.chezgroup.com/training.html .

Shay Griffin will be on hand throughout the weekend to answer more of your questions about the casting process.  We have found that there is a huge demand for time devoted specifically to your questions and concerns regarding auditions…and nobody is better equipped and more qualified to address the subject than casting director, Shay Griffin.

While Mari Lyn works with you on creating your perfect image for an audition, Shay continues the process through a Q & A session that runs in conjunction over the course of this two-day workshop.

After spending the weekend with Shay and Mari Lyn, you will have the necessary tools it takes to be a working actor.

The minimum age requirement to attend this workshop is 15 years of age.

The hours of the workshop weekend will be Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM…all participants will attend both days…!

The new workshop location is the Residence Inn by Marriott Atlanta/Buckhead at 2960 Piedmont Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30305.  The hotel’s phone number is 404-239-0677.  If you should need to book a guest room, a $99 rate per night has been extended to all of our Chez Group actors.  Please be sure to book your room through the front desk to receive this special rate.

The cost of this two-day workshop is $225.

For your convenience, there is a PayPal button on the training page of the website.  To register, please follow this link, http://www.chezgroup.com/training.html.   Once you have registered through PayPal, please send me an email to let me know the name and the age of the person who will be attending so that our records are accurate…the name on the PayPal account is not always the same as the person planning to attend!

We look forward to an exciting weekend.  In the meantime, please feel free to contact me with any questions.
