Seventy-three Georgia Counties Named Camera Ready Communities

Seventy-three GA Counties Named Camera Ready Communities

ATLANTA- Governor Nathan Deal and the Georgia Film, Music & Digital Entertainment Office, a division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD), designated 73 Georgia counties Camera Ready at the Georgia State Capitol today. The state’s Camera Ready Community Program was launched as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to bolster Georgia ‘s growing film and television industry.

“We have experienced a significant increase in jobs, investment, infrastructure and film induced tourism, making Georgia ‘s entertainment industries among the state’s fastest growing sectors,” said GDEcD commissioner Chris Cummiskey. “The statewide response has been tremendous from Georgia counties that want to become Camera Ready in order to help bring jobs and investments to their local communities.”

Camera Ready is a designation put in place by the state to offer film and television production companies easier, faster and better access to local resources and information. A Camera Ready Community must designate a liaison who can assist film and television production companies on a local level. The first 16 Georgia counties were designated Camera Ready at EUE/Screen Gems Studio in Atlanta on October 7, 2010.

Script Analysis Class w/ Ashley LeConte Campbell

Script Analysis Workshop for Film and TV

Saturday, April 2 / 10a-5p / $100 / Atlanta

This workshop answers the question – “What are the things should I do when I get my sides/script?”….since we all know that memorizing our lines is NOT the answer! Our February workshop filled up quickly, so we are offering a second workshop in April!

This class is for seasoned actors who have been looking for a new class to help them continue to progress and stay sharp — and for newer actors who are still getting a foundation.

In this 7 hour workshop we will:
– Breakdown sides from Film/TV projects that have been shooting here in the South
– Review the elements of creating your character from clues in the script (objective, obstacles, environment, history, etc)
– Watch short video clips of LA casting directors/actors/coaches reiterating these exact techniques for creating a character and booking larger roles
– Participate in exercises throughout the day that put to use the things we are learning as the day progresses

The workshop’s host, Ashley LeConte Campbell, is an Atlanta actress who is currently training with Los Angeles acting coach Crystal Carson. Actors who have studied with Margie Haber, Crystal Carson, Ivana Chubbuck, or Larry Moss will recognize familiar themes.  This workshop has been put together from notes taken from these coaches’ classes, videos, books, etc., (and are not just Ashley’s personal opinions!), so it teaches many of the elements of creating characters that Los Angeles directors/producers expect to see in an actor’s audition and performance.

To register: Send payment via to the email address campbal at charter dot net (spelled out to prevent phishing) to reserve your spot. An email will be sent to you confirming that your spot in the workshop is saved. Location: Creative Studios, 500 Bishop St., NW, Atlanta, 30318. We will break for 1 hour for lunch. For ages 15 and older.

(We plan to take this workshop to other Southeastern cities outside the Atlanta area, too! If you have an interest in our coming to your city, please contact us at the email address above.)

Brady and Denis have found one easy solution to save their house from the bank: burglary. Then, one night Brady steals a picture of a woman who is everything he is not – educated, wealthy, upwardly mobile, and African-American. And with that, a brazen new caper is born… leaving no stones, stereotypes, or septic tanks unturned.

This show brings back Josh Tobiessen, a former Kendeda finalist. It’s the first time we’ve produced a play by a Kendeda alum and we’re pumped. See this show and you’ll be glad he’s back, too.

And Then They Came for Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank is a powerful, multi-media Holocaust drama that tells the story of two childhood friends of Anne Frank. Ed Silverberg’s story is of hiding and escaping from the Nazis and Eva Geringer Schloss’ story is of surviving the Holocaust after being incarcerated at Auschwitz with her mother. Ed and Eva share their story on video, while professional actors reenact their incredible experiences as teenagers in hiding and in concentration camps during WWII. The production is now in its 15th year of touring to elementary and middle schools throughout metro Atlanta.

Due to the intense nature of the content, this performance is appropriate for 5th grade and up.

VIP Package
The VIP Package includes preferred seating at the performance and the talk-back discussion after the show. This will be followed by a high tea reception with Mrs. Schloss at Mittie’s Tea Room in Historic Roswell, where you will have the opportunity to chat with Eva and have her sign a copy of Eva’s Story. VIP Tickets are $45 and limited to the first 50 patrons. Call 770-641-1260 to reserve.

Advanced Film/TV Audition Intensive
with Margie Haber

Renowned L.A. acting coach, Margie Haber, author of How To Get The Part Without Falling Apart, comes to yourACT just once or twice a year to teach the Advanced Intensive.

This three-day on-camera intensive workshop is geared for the more experienced working actor. It is based on the belief that auditioning is a slice of life. “I am this person living this life” and that the relationship is the foundation for the work.

Prerequisites: Submit resume’ and get approval of Margie Haber
9:30am – 5:00pm, April 29 – May 1, 2011
Limited to 12 students

To register send your résumé to or call 310-854-0870 for more info. Once you are accepted, payment is made to Margie Haber Studios in Los Angeles.

NOTE: Register early! This class is extremely popular and usually fills quickly!

The first day begins with an on-camera cold reading and the introduction of Margie’s 10-step method for breaking down a scene, including topics such as relationship, intention, history, personalization, opening beat and moment to moment work. Actors learn how to break down the sides quickly, thoroughly and EMOTIONALLY rather than intellectually.

The second day Margie teaches the actors to use her signature phrase technique for communication. It supports both the relationship and intention. Now actors don’t have to rely on memorizing.

The third day, she puts it all together by having an simulated casting session. All the women get the same scene and all the men get the same scene. It is taped, and then critiqued by Margie. What a journey the actors take!!

Back Lot

Hollywood Comes to Georgia
Thanks to the 2008 Entertainment Industry Tax Incentive, more productions are making their home in Georgia than ever before.  There are at least eight, TV shows being lensed in the state.  However, is our talent base prepared to meet the demands of Hollywood?  According to many Hollywood insiders the answer is, “No!”  Actors are still being imported in from as far away as Los Angeles just to speak one line.
A.I.R. seeks to address that deficiency by going beyond just acting technique.  There are many locally-established acting schools that provide acting training, but seldom do they address the demands of a professional, working set or casting office.  Roman James, Founder and Chief Creative Officer of A.I.R. founded the organization to address the limitations of the market after she relocated here from Los Angeles in 2008.  Since she could not find what she needed as an actor in this market, she decided to create it.  We have a unique mission and we strive to achieve it by offering specific, yet comprehensive instruction with legitimate, industry professionals.
About Actors’ Innovative Resource
Actors’ Innovative Resource is a unique and distinctive career support organization based in metro Atlanta for actors.  We operate out of the Community Room at Studioplex, a creative, professional, loft space located at 659 Auburn Avenue, Atlanta, Georgia 30312.

A.I.R. was founded Spring 2009 to address the lack of professional development and opportunities to network with credible, entertainment professionals.  Our mission is to serve the film and television community by providing career strategies and tools that will develop local talent into competent, competitive and exceptional performers at the national level.  We offer workshops, classes, networking opportunities and bona fide information from qualified professionals on a rotating basis.
