INTERMEDIATE HABER FILM/TV AUDITION INTENSIVE!
6:30-10:30PM, MONDAYS & WEDNESDAYS, APRIL 5-28
with DELLA COLE

This Intensive course is designed for trained actors who have some audition experience.

As professional actors, we often audition and work on projects that don’t necessarily challenge the full spectrum of our talents. You may be comfortable with industrials, commercials, and voice-over but fall apart when you audition for a film. With the increase of film and television in production in Georgia, now more than ever, Atlanta talent needs to be ready for Hollywood auditions.

In this Intermediate Intensive, actors work with film and television scripts, learning how to nail the audition in a limited amount of time. The focus is on the nuts and bolts of breaking down a scene, including relationship, intention, history, opening and closing beats, core and masking. Using the skills you learn will greatly improve your audition skills. This valuable cold-reading technique works.

Katie Cofield wrote about the last Intermediate Intensive, which Della taught:

Of all the wonderful things I learned in this class, the most important, seemingly obvious, trick was. . . how to hold the page! It’s such a wonderful image, thinking of bridging the gap between yourself and the other person in the conversation using the page!

I thoroughly enjoyed Della’s comments on our work. So many teachers give you “That was nice” or “That could have been better”. And that’s not helpful. Della’s specificity of critique is great and so constructive!

The creating of the relationship and remembering that it’s the most important thing really works for me, and it was so much more fun to act when I was really connected to the other person in the scene. It made everything fall into place and forced me into just relating honestly at all moments. It made all of my creation of history actually mean something, and made my need in the scene even more important when I was fully locked in to the relationship.

I really liked it when the class doubled up and we had two classes a week. I felt like more was sinking in each class because we had the opportunity to practice with greater frequency in a shorter amount of time.

This class was SUCH a gift! I had several auditions during the weeks of class, and I could tell such a difference- my confidence that I really knew what to do had skyrocketed! For me, it was also such a relief to remember to trust myself and just play. Thank you!!!

Intro to Improv
You asked for it, you got it. Improvisation is an essential tool in any actors’ toolkit. Develop your timing, learn to think on your feet, sharpen your listening and scene building skills. Critical for actors wishing to have success booking commercial auditions, or sharpen their chops and explore character development through improvisation.

Although Sketchworks isn’t an ‘improv’ theater, improvisation is an essential element in the development of characters and in the refining of comedic timing. Listening is everything. Many of our fans and students have requested that we bring back the incredible Amber Nash to lead a four week introduction to improvisation techniques. So we did!

We’re pleased to announce that Amber will lead her four week class on Tuesday nights starting April 6th, in Sketchworks Theatre. Whether you’re an actor, or a regular dude trying to hone your public speaking skills, improvisation will serve your life in ways you never imagined.
* Tuesdays, April 6, 13, 20, 27 (4 weeks)
* 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm
* Limited to 12 actors
* $125

To register online visit http://www.sketchworkscomedy.com/improv.html or call yourACT Acting Studios at 404-499-9996.

Amber has been acting and improvising in Atlanta for 13 years. She is a part of the Improv Ensemble at Dad’s Garage Theatre; fulfilling roles as a performer, teacher, creator and director. Amber works with Laughing Matters as an improviser, actor and team-building facilitator. She is a founding member of The Doug Dank Project at Push Push Theatre and is also a part of Catch 23 that happens monthly at the Earl in East Atlanta.
