Felicity Nove: Poured Paintings
Informed from my recent work on the nature of “scale” in art and science – paintings evocative of deep sink-holes, galactic hazes, and swirling cosmos which view expansive and stellar worlds through a microscope – I return to a more intimate world of exploration.
In this new series, I focus on the internal and phenomenological landscape. Inspired by the poems and colors of William Blake’s drawings, my new paintings explore spatial and temporal consciousness. Created through kinesthetic awareness and intentionality there is a resulting evidence of ones own physical experience recorded by the suspended pigments and optical effects of play-of-color, iridescence, adularescence, and reflections on the canvas.
These embodied action paintings are evidence of a “body”.

“A Whirl of magic realism, heady talk and quirky wit-makes audiences think about why the are laughing!!!
-David C. Nichols, Los Angeles Times
“Tanna is a comedic gem as Mary. Some of the funniest physical comedy I have seen in a long time. She has some touching moments as well and even though she is crazy, and a criminal, you still fall in love with her…As a director, Tanna has done a great job of moving the play along and getting excellent performances out of her talented ensemble cast.”
-Irene Rubaum-Keller, Huffington Post
Directed by Tanna Frederick
A Comedy by Claire Chafee
Starring:
Karen Black, Tanna Frederick,
Cathy Arden & Alex Sedrowski
LIVE MUSIC
Original music and sound design by Edward Auslender
Claire Chafee’s elegant, richly humorous comedy is all about love: romantic love, family love, sibling love, lesbian love, sexual love, and the sometimes strange but wonderful things that we do to satisfy our deepest desires and longings. Funny, sexy and occasionally poignant, “Why We Have A Body” will make you, like Lily and Renee, want to keep coming back for more.
The score is recreated live at each performance by five remarkable musicians.
A playful mix of jazz, funk, blues and classical music, combined with original sound effects, dynamically interacting with the 4 actresses.
Band Members:
KYLE O’DONNELL (Saxophonist)
DAVID ABRAMS(Guitarist)
TREVOR STEER (Pianist)
COOPER APPELT (bassist)

Lili’s a private eye. Her specialty is divorce cases, investigating adulterous husbands. But Lili herself is having an affair with a married woman, Renee, who is (or was, up until this point) a heterosexual.
Lili has a sister, Mary, a career criminal who compulsively robs convenience stores at gunpoint. But Mary is willing to make an effort at having a straight (i.e., non-criminal life). For this, she will have Lili’s assistance.
More than anything, Lili and Mary want to be family. But their mother, Eleanor, is forever exploring cultures in some other country or on some other continent. Mary and Lili long for their Mom.
Claire Chafee is the playwright. “Why We Have A Body” is her best-known play. It premiered in San Francisco in 1993, when it enjoyed a long run, and was later successfully revived there last year. Ms. Chafee’s other plays include “5 Women on a Hill in Spain,” “Darwin’s Finches,” and “Even Among These Rocks.”
Tanna Frederick directs, and portrays Mary. A critically praised audience favorite, she recently concluded record-breaking long runs on stage in “Sylvia” and “Just 45 Minutes from Broadway” at Edgemar Center, where she also appeared in “Always…But Not Forever.” She also appeared in Robey Theatre Company’s “For The Love of Freedom: Toussaint” and at Skylight Theatre in “A Safe Place.” Her lively film career includes performances in “Hollywood Dreams,” “Irene in Time,” “Queen of the Lot” and the upcoming “Just 45 Minutes From Broadway,” “The M Word,” and more. She has also been involved with philanthropies ranging from Save Our Surf to the Iowa Film Festival.

Mrs. Helen Alving’s struggle with the ghosts of her past is about to come to an end. Tomorrow, commemorating the tenth anniversary of her husband’s death, a new orphanage will be dedicated in his name.
For twenty-nine years, since her mother and two aunts arranged for her to marry the wealthy, charming Captain Alving, Helen has kept a dark secret – the reality of her late husband’s deviant excesses and his disease. Now, with her son Osvald finally home to stay after many years abroad, a triumphant new life begins. The past will be buried forever.
But her spiritual liberation is about to meet a catastrophic fate in one of the great plays of the world stage by one of its greatest dramatists, Henrik Ibsen. This English language adaptation of “Ghosts” will prove as haunting for modern audiences as its title.
Doug Kaback adapts and directs. He has previously directed shows for the Old Globe, Fountain Theatre, Cornerstone Theatre, Los Angeles Theatre Center, East West Players, Odyssey Theatre and other venues. He has written over forty plays, and is a Professor at Cal State Northridge.
Michelle Danner plays Helene. The Artistic Director of Edgemar Center for the Arts, she recently appeared in “Hello, Herman,” a feature film which she also directed for All In Films. Her stage acting credits include “Hedda Gabler,” “Antigone,” “The House of Yes,” “The Shadow Box,” and much more.
The cast also includes James Giordano, Nate Golon and Lucy Honigman

We have just a few places remaining in Steve Coulter’s audition techniques workshop ( ages 16 and older) scheduled for Saturday, May 12th from 10 AM to 6:30 PM. For your talent to register, please follow this link to the training page of our website and scroll down to the adult workshop posting on the webpage, which is the May 12th workshop, http://www.chezgroup.com/training.html.
In addition, we have received so many requests from parents and agents who have asked that we offer an audition techniques workshop with Steve to the younger actors that we have agreed to do so!
The Chez Group is excited to announce a one-day auditioning techniques workshop with Steve Coulter that will be structured for actors ages 12 to 15. This all-day workshop, Auditioning For Film & Television, is scheduled for Saturday, May 19th from 10 AM to 6:30 PM .
For the first time, our younger actors will have the opportunity to work with Steve. He is an Atlanta based actor, writer and director. This coming year, he appears in Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games, Disney’s The Odd Life of Timothy Green, opposite Robert Duvall in Jayne Manfield’s Car (directed by Billy Bob Thornton), opposite Colin Firth and Emily Blunt in Arthur Newman Golf Pro for Focus Features, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, Hallmark Hall of Fame’s Firelight, opposite Cuba Gooding, Jr., and with Denzel Washington in Flight, directed by Robert Zemeckis.
A graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts, his other film and television appearances include Mr. Brooks with Kevin Costner, Prison Break, Boycott and Warm Springs on HBO, and Army Wives. He recently co-starred with The Wire’s Seth Gilliam in The People v. Leo Frank on PBS, and the ABC series,
Detroit 1-8-7.
Steve was the head writer and executive story editor for both of Tyler Perry’s television series on TBS, House of Payne and Meet the Browns, where he supervised over 100 episodes and won two consecutive NAACP IMAGE Awards for Best Comedy Series. He wrote and directed the award-winning short film, The Etiquette Man, selected by the Sundance Channel and the National Gallery of Art in Washington. His screenplay, Keesha’s House, won the $100,000 Southeastern Media Award at the Atlanta Film Festival. Steve is also working closely with Shay Griffin as the writer and co-producer of her new television series, The Land That We Love, which is currently in development.
Steve will be focusing on the audition process. As he explains, auditioning for film and television is not mysterious. Directors and producers are looking for very specific things. And there are very simple and specific actions an actor can take to prepare for that audition.
Actors will be taken through the entire audition process, from when they first receive the audition sides, through the first reading, to the callback. They will learn how to prepare for the audition, what to do once they walk into the room or are put on tape, how to manage nervousness, and most of all, how to actually enjoy the process. Each actor will be put on tape as part of a simulated film audition. (Please bring 2 headshots.)
Casting director Shay Griffin will be on hand during the course of the day, as well.
The location of Steve’s workshop is the Residence Inn by Marriott Atlanta/Buckhead at 2960 Piedmont Road, Atlanta, 30305. The phone number is 404-239-0677 if anyone should need to book a room.
The cost of this all-day workshop is $165, and we offer PayPal for everyone’s convenience. For your talent to register, please follow this link to the training page of our website and be sure to choose the first workshop posted on the webpage, which is the May 19th workshop, http://www.chezgroup.com/training.html .
The workshop will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at chezmaryann@aol.com. .
We look forward to seeing your talent soon!
Sincerely,
Mary Ann
