yourACT’s 10th Anniversary!

A time for Receiving…

We opened yourACT January 2, 2002 in a small space on N Druid Hills Rd, with big dreams. Within a year, we had outgrown that original location and moved to a much larger location on Scott Blvd. After three years there, in May of 2006 we moved to our current 11,000 square foot facility on N Decatur Rd. We appreciate all of the actors, agents, parents, spouses, and others who have made our success possible.

As a way of saying thank you for your participation in our classes over the years, we are offering discounts on classes starting during the month of January 2012:

…and a time for Giving

There are many worthy causes this time of year asking for our contributions and assistance. You all probably have various charities or your church where you donate to help those in need. We respect that.

There are a couple of opportunities that we wanted to let you know about that are very special:

Our good friend and actress, Widdi Turner, organizes the One Warm Coat drive for our area each year.

One Warm Coat is a national non-profit organization that assists in the donation of coats. We help individuals, groups, companies and organizations across the country collect coats and deliver them to local agencies that distribute them free, to people in need.

Our mission is to ensure that anyone who needs a coat has one. Providing this simple, yet vital, need helps people live productive lives year round. Since inception, more than 2.5 million coats have been collected and distributed through One Warm Coat activities.

There will be a collection box in the yourACT lobby beginning this weekend for the Sketchworks Company Holiday Party. Bring your coats to donate from now until the end of the year.

When you give to Operation Homefront, you help make life just a little easier for our military families and wounded warriors.

Why Help our Military Families?

The statistics are staggering. Hundreds of thousands of military families feel the effects of war: Post-Traumatic Stress; Traumatic Brain Injury; bodily injuries and death; and financial and emotional struggles.

Operation Homefront is here to help. Our mission is to assist American military service members and their families when they have needs associated with financial hardships that arise as a result of their military service. But we can’t do it alone. Your donation will make all the difference for these heroes who serve our country.

How? For every dollar given, $0.94 directly helps military families and wounded warriors. We are proud to have received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, and an “A” rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy. In addition, we are registered with the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance.

Since 2002, Operation Homefront has met the needs of more than 400,000 families and personnel nationwide and invested $128 million of funding in programs to support them. Much like the military, we have a “no man left behind” attitude to help every possible family and wounded warrior who sacrifices so much for the freedoms we enjoy. When we can’t fill a need, we help families access other organizations that can help, then we take on the role of advocate to make sure they receive the assistance they need.

December 8th, Rusty Humphries, Rob Johnson and Radio Station WGST kicked off a radiothon fundraiserfor Operation Homefront Georgia. Operation Homefront Georgia is VoiceQuilt’s home town chapter of Operation Homefront, an amazing non-profit that supports military families.

As part of this effort, VoiceQuilt is making a $1 donation for each listener that calls in thank-you voice messages for our nation’s military.

Donate money directly to Operation Homefront by calling 404-870-5111 to speak with a Radiothon volunteer. Then, simply “unlock” an additional $1 donation by leaving a message for the troops. It’s easy. Dial 1-877-OurQuilt (1-877-687-7845). When asked for your invitation number, enter 640 #. Then, record your thanks.

VoiceQuilt friends, media friends and military families have called in their holiday greetings and words of thanks for the military. Need a smile? Listen to some samples here. We’ve been touched and amazed by the range of holiday greetings and thank you voice messages the troops have received so far.

Please help us spread holiday cheer by thanking the troops. Your spoken words evoke emotion – and convey appreciation — in ways that written words, pictures and other media cannot. Imagine a group of deployed troops listening to these thank you messages as they enjoy a holiday meal.

SKETCHWORKS HOLIDAY PARTY!

It’s the Atlanta Comedy Bash

of the Year!

The 4th Annual Dingle Ball!

Not only is it important that we see you at the party, what a great time and way to introduce friends to Sketchworks who’ve never experienced our brand of mirth and frivolity. Saturday night from 7-11p at the Sketchworks Theatre. Directions can be found here.

Food, drink, a Sketchworks main stage mini-show “Whose Child Is This?”, and live music from The Dirt Poets! Plus a silent auction, an extremely cool live painting exhibition, and finally, a place where you can really blow it out and not worry about bosses, family or co-workers!

Your host Chinester Meriwhether, celebrity casting director, awaits you. Life is too short to spend hanging around people who don’t make you laugh. Attire is bare shoulders, except for the women.

And a blatant reminder, this is our big annual fundraiser, so if you can’t come please pretend you’re coming and buy a ticket to help us out. Tickets and info are at the Sketchworks web site.

And remember, what happens at Sketchworks, stays at Sketchworks.
