This is a good opportunity!

Crystal Carson is an acting coach from LA who is in town to do a workshop this weekend.  The workshop is booked I think but she’s doing a Q&A on Friday afternoon from 4-6p and it’s only $20.  I don’t think many people are aware of it, or don’t know enough about Crystal to know what a good opportunity this is.  So here is her bio and I really do encourage you to make this small investment in your career!

Crystal Carson has been teaching and coaching professionally in Los Angeles for the last 15 years.  Prior to that she worked as an actress in 25 theatre repertory and summer stock companies; in several television programs, Crystal had a recurring role on CBS’s award winning show, “Jag”, but is more known for playing Julia Barrett for five years on “General Hospital”, when she was voted “Best New Female” by Soap Opera Digest and put on their cover as one of “Television’s Most Beautiful Women. Prior to that she appeared for 8 weeks on the mega-hit “Dallas”,  had guest starring roles on “Ellen,” “Cheers,” “Charles In Charge,” “Midnight Caller,” “Thirtysomething,” “Simon & Simon” and “Night Court” to name a few. Crystal appeared in several films including “Who’s That Girl” with Madonna, and the female lead in “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes III with John Austin. Crystal has studied acting extensively, some of her teacher/mentors include (the late) Uta Hagen (”Respect for Acting”, “A Challenge For The Actor”,) (the late) Sanford Meisner, Howard Fine, Eric Morris (”No Acting Please”) and Margie Haber (”How to get the Part without Falling Apart”.) This background gives Crystal a unique and varied understanding of many acting approaches and has created for her a strong reputation for the ability to accommodating actors’ individual methods.

In 1993 Crystal began teaching audition technique at the Margie Haber Studios, where she still works as a guest coach. Most recently, she was employed by producer Deepak Nayar (Bend it like Beckham) to coach on his new feature film, “Veronica”. Prior to that Crystal worked for FOX-TV as the on-set coach for a full season of the crime procedural “The Inside,” focusing primarily on lead actress Rachel Nichols.  She has been a teacher at Margie Haber Studios for the past 14 years.  She also conducts semi-annual seminars at the University of Nebraska, does seminars in various States, and coaches privately in Los Angeles. Her clients have included and still include Paula Abdul, Silvana Arias (Passions, Starting Under), Jennifer Beals (L Word), David Boreanaz (Bones), China Chow (Burn Notice), Brittany Daniel (The Game, Joe Dirt, White Chicks), Ethan Embrey (Brotherhood, Heart of a Dragon), Tricia Helfer (Inseparable, Battlestar Galactica),  Atossa Leoni (The Kite Runner), Sunny Mabrey (Snakes on a plane, Drop Point), Vanessa Marcil (Las Vegas), Rachel Nichols (Sisterhood of Traveling Pants 2, Charlie Wilson’s War), Ross Patterson (The New Guy, The Darwin Awards), Stephen Rider (Great Debaters), April Scott (Dukes of Hazzard; the beginning), Brenda Strong (Desperate Housewives), Kate Vernon (Battlestar Galactica) Brian White (Stomp the Yard, The Game Plan, Moonlight), and Deborah Zoe (Big Shots) to name just a few.

As a true believer of the powerful magic of acting, Crystal Carson is one of the few elite acting coaches who has devoted her primary career to perfecting the coaching of professional actors.  Her outstanding reputation is a result of her remarkable expertise, uniquely coupled with her extraordinary gift to inspire others to rise to their potential. Clients value the way she guides them in utilizing their emotional, intellectual and spiritual sensibilities to generate a character’s life. Through this approach each actor’s unique, quirky, multi-faceted personality surfaces through the character in unpredictable yet appropriate  ways. Crystal’s clients grow artistically and increase their confidence, playfulness, and willingness to take risks; all of which lead to making strong choices while remaining open to a director’s notes.
